I deal with all of my athletes personally. I design 3 to 6 week structured training cycles of work specifically for each athlete. The training series are based around an annual structure that ALL of my athletes (amateur, semi-professional & professional) follow. This annual structure starts with off-season base fitness and strengthening and progresses to power build before early season racing and finally a very specific and scientifically controlled build to achieve best performance for specific peak event/s.
I am 100% up to date and a national coaching leader in the application and use of power measuring devices. All of my athletes need to have an approved power measuring device and prescribed software. These tools provide critically important feedback to me for design of all training and racing programs. Power records must be sent to me daily to monitor progress/problems and in designing of future Mesocycles so my athletes must be computer literate. To help to mitigate my athlete's costs I am a distributor for SRM and Powertap hardware and Cyclingpeaks software.
I communicate primarily by e-mail. I read and respond to unlimited emails (witin reason). I am available for pre-arranged telephone discussions for questions too complicated for email. I have over 1,000 on-line answers to previously posted frequently asked questions. I am always willing to investigate new techniques and research on behalf of my athletes.
I provide Basal Energy Expenditure nutritional guidelines and recommendations including Body Composition profile and analysis. I also recommend specific hydration & nutritional protocol for training and racing and can recommend a vit/min supplementation protocol if requested.
I include all bike fits including component recommendations for all of my athlete's bikes from my home/office in Irvine, CA. I fit my athletes with a mixture of art and science and have been trained as a bio-mechanic bike fit specialist. My ultimate goal is to create a powerful power train that an athlete can maintain under race conditions.
I train all my athletes in the use of race preparation, tactics and strategy. I expect to be consulted on specific race strategy, especially for peak events. Event/race results called in to me immediately day-of-race are very useful to the program. I travel up to 200 days/year but attend races only at my own discretion.
My program includes an advanced mental toughness training program that has been developed with a world leading Sports Psychology specialist.
I ride locally in Irvine (So. Cal) area. If I am on the same ride as an athlete I coach I will try to seek them out and monitor on-bike technique and discuss on-ride issues (general coaching questions must be reserved for e-mail). All of my athletes are invited to join training rides and clinics that I hold e.g. weekly 100-mile off-season spin followed by a weekly climbing series held on Saturday mornings in CA through winter where we work on bike handling issues.
